FairElect: 1983 Election

Tucson General Election November 6, 1979
This is a General Election for Mayor and Council Wards 1, 2 & 4. Mayor Lew Murphy is elected with a 41% majority vote. In Ward 2 Brent Davis wins the election, but not his ward. The candidacy of John Vargas for Mayor is a continuation of the recall effort of 1977. Mr Vargas was a lead promoter of the effort. In Ward 4, Ford defeats Cross to complete the political end of the recall and the politicians promoting it.
